Day in the life of Amberley Kent

We sat down with Amberley Kent, one of our Quality Assurance Associates to learn what a typical day in her role involves, what she enjoys and what feature of BookingsPlus she finds most helpful.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day mostly consists of testing any bugs or new features before being deployed. Once this task is complete, I begin working on ‘tickets’ which are functionality requests from either customers or the internal team. These are often broken down into several tickets to make them simpler to test, and working alongside the Development and Business Analysis team I make sure what we see is expected, or look at how it can be improved. Then on days where we are  , I am constantly monitoring the current features and processes and ensuring they are functioning correctly.

What do you enjoy most in your role as a Quality Assurance Associate?

I enjoy the investigative nature of testing;  every ‘is like a mini science experiment – you have all the various variables and expected results, and you’re trying to see what works, and what makes the lab explode.

What’s your top feature in the BookingsPlus system that makes your job easier?

Whilst I don’t specifically utilise BookingsPlus  to complete tasks which are part of my role, I do love we developed last year. It allows users to securely save their card to their account while they are processing a payment. It can then be used by all users on that client account for future bookings, invoicing and deposit payments, which is a massive help for clubs and groups who have a Secretary, Treasurer and Coaches all involved in the bookings process. I know from my time as a Guru and working in our Customer Support team how helpful this functionality is to those types of hirers, as well as being more convenient for all customers in general.

What skills are required in your position on a day-to-day basis?

Curiosity. You have to want to know the ins and outs of how a bit of functionality does or doesn’t work, and what limits it can be pushed to. A fair bit of system knowledge and understanding of how our customers use it is also very useful, which I have from my previous roles within Kajima.

If you could join another team or take on another person’s role in community, what would it be and why?

After working in four different departments within the Community team already, since 2013, I think I’m pretty settled as a Tester. So, unless Accounts are looking for a person who is still baffled by formulas and pivot tables, I’ll probably stay put for now.
